I am currently retired. I do however have a part time job with a government agency. I don’t need the money for expenses because I have a nice tidy nest egg. I do it primarily just to interact with and help people. My retirement is going great because I invested with the best no load funds.
Our culture today is not good. Many people just follow what’s on TV. They spend their money on luxury goods and fancy cars. Many of these people seem rich. But underneath it all they’re living paycheck to paycheck. Or maybe they got a sports car but live in the slums (I hear the term for these people are “hood rich” or “ghetto fabulous”).
There were people like that when I was young. I didn’t follow them. I invested in the stock market. And the great thing about investing in a stock is that your money works for you. If you’re young right now, a $1 today is worth $10 when you retire. So if you are smart you can make a good deal of money.
Back then there were barely any mutual funds. So I would have to invest in individual stocks. This wasn’t good as sometimes a company would blow up. Basically a version of Enron.
